Joaquin Baca-Asay

Joaquin Baca-Asay began directing after a highly regarded cinematography career that was launched when he shot the Oscar-nominated short film, “The Lady in Waiting” while still a student at NYU Film School. Soon after, he brought his striking visual style and impeccable technique to an array of award-winning commercial and narrative projects including Director of Photography on such acclaimed films as Dylan Kidd’s “Roger Dodger” and “PS,” Mike Mill’s feature debut, “Thumbsucker,” and James Gray’s acclaimed “We Own the Night” and “Two Lovers,” as well as the cult comedy classic “Super Troopers.”

Baca-Asay hit the ground running as a director with a pair of gold award-winning spots for Nike. He went on to create for some of the most recognized brands in the world, earning him a name as a master storyteller who glimpses humanity with visual beauty and emotional restraint. Accolades continued to follow at the AICP, Andy’s, Clios, Addys and Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival (IAF), along with a prestigious Directors’ Guild of America nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.

Baca-Asay is currently in development on two projects, a documentary, which chronicles the story of an infamous New York paparazzo, and a television series based on the crime novels of prolific American author, Jerome Charyn.
